  1. We worked with the Methodist Church which is very well connected to the ones Riga, Liepa, and other areas in Latvia. We worked on a couple of church projects they had going on like construction and clean up, but it was very relaxed. We were told about the summer camp they put on called Wesley Camp and we think it would be ideal for teams to help with the camp in the future.

  1. We lodged at the Methodist churches while we were here. They had beds, showers, and toilets. Lodging was free.

  1. We ate from the super markets because it was significantly cheaper than eating out. The whole team of 6 ate breakfast for under 6e, lunch for under 6e, and dinner for under 12e. We used Rimi Hypermarket, but there are many other options of stores all over the city. We recommend you bring your own bag to the store because they have started charging for bags to carry your things in.Kimberlite also HIGHLY recommends trying the small yogurt squares from the markets. They are super cheap and quite tasty. #weightgain
  2. This place (as all other in europe) has a giant market. Fresh produce can be found there. They also have a giant Rimi in this town. Deli Snack is a must with their garlic sauce and cheese fries if you are looking for something to become addicted to this month.There are cute coffee shops, again not the cheapest (euro vs dollar), but good.

  1. tram cost .80e if you buy the ticket on the tram, and .66e if you buy it in the Narvesen store.Bus tickets from Riga to Liepaja with a bag to store under the bus cost 10.26e per person.
  2. Liepaja is directly next to the Baltic. It’s a quaint and beautiful town. There is only one tram that runs through it. Honestly everything is done via walking throughout this town, and I honestly don’t know who wouldn’t want to walk around it, its your beautiful mini European town.

  • The cell carrier used was Tele2. Free calls and texts to anyone else on Tele2. Sim cards are available in the mall at the city center. Country code is +371
  • There is cell reception everywhere and internet almost everywhere. No problems at all.

Off Days / Fun Activities

  • Musical Note Tour of the city (you can find a map at the Information Center in the City Center, covers the history and architecture of the city)
  • Beach that is a 5 minute walk away from the church
  • Baltic Sea (it is very cold and windy in April)
  • Prison from the Soviet time turned into Karosta Hotel

  1. We connected with a family in Tasi, which is like 15 minutes out of Liepaja, who own a boat rental place on lake Tasi.There are lots of festivals that come to the city. We saw some boat and car races.We went to the top of the Lutheran church and looked out over the whole city.
  2. Not a ton to do. We’d spend off days and go to the beach, the sand is beautiful. The town is fairly distant from all others though.
